马来西亚槟城（乔治市）是一座被联合国教科文组织列入世界文化遗产的城市。它位于马来西亚西北海岸，面积不大，却把多元文化、热带海岛和市井烟火揉在了一起。

Penang (George Town), Malaysia, is a city listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site. Sitting on Malaysia’s north-west coast, it covers little ground yet folds multicultural heritage, tropical island scenery and everyday street life into one place.

[Baidu Info] George Town, the capital of Penang, was inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage list on 7 July 2008 together with Malacca. The core heritage zone lies in the old town at the north-east corner of George Town and preserves the most complete British colonial urban fabric in South-East Asia. George Town is the political, financial, tourism, cultural and higher-education centre of Penang State, an important medical-tourism hub in Malaysia and the financial centre of the north, with Penang International Airport, fast ferries and bridges linking it to the Malay Peninsula.

George Town’s main streets are busy, but the back lanes are more interesting. Clan jetties, Chinatown, George Town itself — every alley holds a different story. A plane flew over Tan Jetty, and I quickly caught it on my phone.

在文化壁画街，“姐弟共骑”那幅画吸引了无数游客来打卡。观光人力三轮车在小巷子穿梭，游客在前、师傅在后，蛮有意思。
还有消防局，虽然随时可能出警，但他们允许游客进来参观。
槟城饮食文化多元，各式饭店和路边摊都挺有特色。我们住的酒店附近有一排小餐厅，每间都不同，中国菜、印度菜、马来菜各有所长。当然，在热闹的市中心，有很多大食阁（类似中国的美食城），食物选择的空间更大。食阁间聚集了数十甚至数百个小食摊，每个摊点食品特色各具特色。
感觉中餐最合自己胃口，对于一些其他菜的味道确实需要适应。当地特色的炒粿条、福建面、椰浆饭等也不错，现场人气蛮高。

On the street-art trail, the mural “Kids on a Bicycle” draws countless visitors for photos. Sightseeing trishaws weave through the lanes, tourists in front and the driver behind — a charming arrangement. There is a fire station too: it can be called out at any moment, yet visitors are still welcome to come in and look around. Penang’s food culture is wonderfully mixed: restaurants and roadside stalls all have their own character. Near our hotel stood a row of small eateries, each one different — Chinese, Indian and Malay dishes, each with its own strengths. In the busy city centre there are big food courts (similar to China’s “food cities”), where the choice is even wider: dozens, even hundreds, of stalls gather under one roof, each with its own speciality. I found Chinese food suited my palate best; some other flavours do take some getting used to. Local favourites such as char kway teow, Hokkien mee and nasi lemak are excellent too, and always busy.

The local durians and mangosteens are fresh and kind to your wallet. Penang’s beauty is not in how many sights you tick off, but in whether you are willing to slow down.

这座城就是这样，它不会因为你匆匆而过而改变，但一定会因为你的停留而展现出不同的面貌。放慢脚步，吃点小食，看一幅壁画，坐在饮料店喝点东西再发一会儿呆，槟城的世界就慢慢打开了。

This city is like that: it will not change because you pass through in a hurry, but it will show you a different face if you stay a while. Slow down, eat a snack, look at a mural, sit in a drinks shop with something cold and stare into space for a while — and Penang’s world gradually opens up.
